Vampire Lingo

Vampire Lingo

As you read through Vampires Revealed  and other books by Rebeka Harrington, you will encounter some words you are no doubt unfamiliar with.   Vampire origins date back to an ancient time and the languages used have all been lost to history.  Despite the necessity to keep in touch with the modern era and speaking many languages, vampires honor their roots and ancestry with the use of words symbolic to vampires and which definie specific aspects of vampire culture.

There is no complete vampire language, only the few terms and phrases which are still used.  The following is a guide to these terms and their meanings.

Avetser

This term is applied to humans who are the beloved or spouse of a vampire.  It also means “treasured“.  They are extremely rare and very special inviduals.

Belyetvar

Means “unspeakable exile” and “outlaw“.  Under vampire law, no vampire can refuse to appear before the Grand Council as either a witness or alleged offender.  Failure to appear results in them being declared Belyetvar.  Belyetvar vampires are often hunted for pleasure by the Eleiveb.

Eishevy

Refers to vampires who were made from humans and simply translates as “made“.

Eleiveb

Means “wretched“, it refers to a small minority of vampires with total disdain for humans and who place little to no value on human life other than to feed.  They are considered fanatic extremists among vampires.

Haeyled

Means “child“, it is used to described the relationship between a vampire and that which they made.  The bond between maker and Haeyled is powerful.

Herashevn

The direct translation is “first one“.  The Herashevn are ancient and very powerful vampires.  They play an important role in vampire law and society.

Maeshevoth

Means “blood-drinker“, it is the term used to refer to all vampires.

Mevaegen

Means “protected“.  Mevaegen typically applies to any human under the protection of a vampire.

Naelih

Means “exalted” and “supreme“, it is a title of great significance held by Aahmes who is the first Naevled, he is also Herashevn.

Naevled

Literally means “born“, it is used solely to distinguish between born and made vampires.

Yetsern

Translated means “maker” or “parent“, it is used to describe a vampire who has a turned a human and created a Haeyled.  To become a Yetsern is considered a great honor by all vampires.
